Diversity and inclusion differences
In short, diversity is a fact, while inclusion is a choice. Diversity is about surrounding yourself with different people. Inclusion is working with different people, not letting them know they are different. All employees are then treated on the same professional footing. As Vernā Myers, an American activist, says: “Diversity is being invited to the party. Inclusion is being invited to dance.”
Unfortunately, an organization can have strong diversity without being inclusive, which obviously creates tension and conflict. To avoid this, the human resources policy and the managerial strategy of the company must be aligned. And for good reason, diversity is more a matter of recruitment, while inclusion is a matter of management.
